The Chief Executive, CY Leung, is expected to meet President Xi Jinping this afternoon, during his annual duty visit to Beijing.
Leung is scheduled for two key meetings with state leaders, during which he's expected to hold talks with President Xi and Premier Li Keqiang. The Chief Executive says he'll brief them about economic, social and political developments in Hong Kong over the past year.
However there is also a suggestion that the controversial issue of a joint immigration checkpoint for the Express Rail link will be on the agenda. Hong Kong lawmakers are concerned that setting up such a facility could infringe the "one country two systems" policy, as it would require mainland officials to enforce mainland laws in the SAR.
But just before Leung left for Beijing on Monday, he again stressed that such a facility was crucial for the success of the high-speed link, adding that he was open to discuss anything on which Hong Kong would need the support of the central government.
