Joshua Wong and three other pro-democracy activists have gone on trial for allegedly obstructing police officers during a protest in 2014.
Copies of Beijing's White Paper on Hong Kong were set on fire during the protest outside the liaison office in Western.
A police inspector told Eastern Court he saw two of the defendants – Raphael Wong from the League of Social Democrats and People Power lawmaker Albert Chan – tried to get in the way of a plain-clothes officer who was trying to put out the flames.
All four defendants, including Demosisto's Nathan Law, deny the charge. The hearing continues.
