The prosecution and the defence in the trial of seven police officers accused of beating up pro-democracy activist Ken Tsang during the Umbrella movement protests of 2014 have dropped a joint application for the entire court to visit Tamar Park.
The prosecution had wanted to highlight three spots in the park to the judge, to help him decide whether news footage of the alleged assault should be admissible. But the defence had disgreed on the exact points to be highlighted.
They withdrew the application after District Court judge David Dufton suggested filming the scene could serve the same purpose. Prosecutors will now film the alleged crime scene and show it to the court.
The court is hearing applications from the defence to exclude news footage as evidence of the alleged assault that took place at a dimly lit corner of Tamar Park in October 2014.
