Former House News bloggers take to Facebook
Some former bloggers of House News have set up a new Facebook page in the wake of the shutdown of the two-year-old pro-democracy website.
Allan Au said they set up House News Bloggers because they want experienced writers to be able to continue to voice their ideas.
Au also invited all former bloggers to post their old articles on the platform so that they can be passed down.
The Facebook page has amassed more than 42,000 likes since it was launched on Saturday.
House News was founded by businessman Tony Tsoi, cultural critic Leung Man-tao, former adviser to the Central Policy Unit Lau Sai-leung and media veteran Greg Sung in 2012. It was a Hong Kong version of the United States-based Huffington Post and a pioneering internet media in the city.
The news service had an official website but mainly relied on Facebook to reach out to readers. The Facebook page had more than 230,000 likes by the time the website closed on Saturday.
In a letter posted on the website on Saturday, Tsoi blamed political pressure, fear for his family’s safety and poor advertising income for the closure.
