Civic Party leader Alan Leong has decided not to run for the Legislative Council again.
He said he does not want another term as a lawmaker after his current term in the Legco ends next year.
Leong hoped that some young politician will replace him after the next election. He emphasised that he is not discouraged by the current political situation in Hong Kong.
He told RTHK's Candice Wong that his decision to step down still needs the approval of the party.
Leong won a directly elected seat in the Kowloon East constituency in 2004. He was re-elected in 2008 and 2012. The senior counsel also ran against Donald Tsang, the incumbent Hong Kong's Chief Executive in the first ever contested Chief Executive Election in 2007.
He is also a founding member of the Civic Party and a former chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association.
