Tommy Cheung talks to RTHK's Janice Wong
Liberal Party lawmaker, Tommy Cheung, has proposed increasing the overall size of the Medical Council to 32, by adding four non-medical members.
He said this should help the council handle future medical complaints more fairly.
The move comes after the High Court ordered the council to reconsider a complaint made by the parents of a baby who had part of a finger amputated in 2009 due to the negligence of a prominent paediatrician.
Cheung told RTHK's Janice Wong he was confident he would have enough support from fellow lawmakers.
