The Chief Executive CY Leung has appointed two pro-Beijing figures to the Lingnan University Council.
They are Junius Ho – a former president of the Law Society and Maggie Chan, who helped a minibus company apply for court injunctions to clear the Mong Kok Occupy protest site last year.
Their terms will start next Thursday for a period of three years.
This comes against the backdrop of a raging controversy about academic freedom in the SAR. The rejection of an academic with links to a co-founder of Occupy Central protests has mired the University of Hong Kong in a controversy.
Some teachers and students allege that political interference in educational institutions is increasing while the pro-government camp says some academics are using universities to manipulate students to take part in protests against the government and Beijing.
