Labour Party legislator Cyd Ho said an in-depth discussion on the copyright amendment bill in the Legislative Council next Wednesday is necessary for the public to have a better understanding of the issue.
Many people are not satisfied with the scope of exemptions offered, Ho said, as under the proposed bill, people who upload their performance of a copyrighted song could also face prosecution.
Ho called on the pro-government camp not to use the discussion to accuse lawmakers of filibustering, when all they are doing is scrutinising the bill in more detail.
“This issue deserves a very in-depth debate. I hope the pro-establishment camp and the government would not smear members who conduct our duty … as filibuster,” she said.
