The defence for the seven police officers charged with beating up Occupy protester Ken Tsang last year told the court during a procedural hearing that the identity of the suspects will be a key point of dispute.

The officers were charged after TVB filmed a group of plain clothes officers hauling the handcuffed protester to a dark corner in Tamar Park in October last year, where they kicked and punched him as he was lying on the ground. The news footage will be a key piece of prosecution evidence.

All seven have denied a charge of causing Tsang grievous bodily harm with intent, and one of them also denied an additional count of common assault.

A pre-trial hearing will be held on March 11 next year. The proper trial scheduled for June 1 is estimated to last 20 days.

Prosecution witnesses include 38 police officers, a pathologist, a medical officer and two civilians.
