The MTR Corporation has blamed complicated reclaimed ground conditions in West Kowloon as one of the reasons for the delays of the express rail link.
At a Legco select committee probing the matter, the railway company insisted that the ground's complexity and huge amount of granite in the area were unforeseen.
It also insisted that site investigation conducted before work began met government standards.
MTR project manager Mark Lomas told lawmakers that the complexity of the work became known only after the ground was dug up.
