A notice suggesting a link between cold weather and increased demand for condoms has gone viral after being posted on CUHK Secrets, a Facebook page where students at Chinese University HK can anonymously share stories or photos from around campus.
Roughly translated, it says:
Winter is coming, the weather is getting colder, and the demand for condoms is going to rise. We are anticipating a temporary stock shortage. Sorry for the inconvenience.
The note was signed and stamped by the New Asia College student's union, who provide the complimentary condoms year round in campus vending machines as part of a joint safe-sex initiative with AIDS Concern.
Speaking to , the student's union said they don't know if there is a causal link, but our theory is that this is just proof that cuffing season is a real thing. Cuffing season, for those who don't read Urban Dictionary, refers to the phenomenon of people coupling up for company during the colder winter months.
Regardless of how we feel about the term (it may as well be called shackling season), we're just glad to see people are obtaining - and hopefully using - protection, especially since we're apparently on track to reach the highest number of new HIV diagnoses . Cuff safely, everybody!
