A proposal to build 1,000 residential units in Tung Chung under the home ownership scheme will be presented to the Islands District Council on Monday.

Hong Kong will build more than 9,000 residential units on some outlying islands to house 27,000 people, the Hong Hong Economic Journal reported Wednesday.
Construction will begin in 2016 and some units will be ready by 2019, the report said, citing government documents.
Most of the housing units will be built in Mui Wo and Tung Chung where the government plans to relocate 20,000 residents.
The project is part of a plan to supply 470,000 new homes — six public units for every four private flats — in the 10 years to 2023.
Of the 282,000 public units, 80,000 will be under the home ownership scheme, Secretary for Transport and Housing Anthony Cheung said.
That works out to an average of 20,000 public flats and 8,000 private housing units each year under the home ownership scheme.
Meanwhile, the Development Bureau and the Planning Department will present a proposal to the Islands District Council on Monday to build 1,000 units under the home ownership scheme for 3,100 residents on a government site in Yu Tung Road in Tung Chung.
Also, the Housing Department is planning to build 11 public housing blocks for 8,000 units in San Hing Road in Tuen Mun district in the next 10 years.
As of the end of June, a record 255,000 applications for public flat allocation had been submitted to the government, including 130,000 from non-elderly single applicants, about 8,200 more than six months earlier.
