A former deputy director of the State Council's Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, has warned that "blood will be shed" if Occupy Central organisers refuse to give up their actions.

Chen Zou'er described the campaign as the local version of recent revolutions in Ukraine and Africa, aimed at overthrowing the government.

In an exclusive interview with RTHK, Mr Chen, who also heads a national-level think tank on Hong Kong, took what happened in Libya and Ukraine in the past few years as examples, accusing western countries of promoting Occupy Central.

He said "some people"
persuaded specially trained citizens to take part in the civil disobedience campaign, in a bid to "create bloodshed"
if or when the government takes enforcement action. He said the mastermind behind the campaign would then take the moral high ground to criticize the government and overthrow it.

Asked if the People's Liberation Army in Hong Kong would be deployed if a large number of people occupy the main streets of Central, Mr Chen did not respond directly, only saying Beijing would not sit idly ignoring such a situation. But he added that he believed Hong Kong police could handle the matter.
