One of the organisers of the Occupy Central movement, Benny Tai, says once Beijing sets out its framework on Hong Kong's political reform, he will discuss an action plan with other members of the pan-democratic camp.
The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress is expected to make a decision next Sunday. Occupy Central has said it will peacefully block Hong Kong's business district if Beijing doesn't offer democracy which meets international standards.
Mr Tai says his group and other pro-democracy parties will organise a series of actions in the run up to any large-scale blockade of the streets of Central, if Beijing proposes a screening mechanism for future Chief Executive elections.
But he says Occupy Central will not take place if the Standing Committee only rules out public nomination -- a process whereby the public gets to nominate Chief Executive candidates.
Mr Tai says if that's the case, his group will only assist some other pan-democratic groups which may take action.
Both Beijing and the SAR government have said public nomination is against the Basic Law.
Mr Tai was speaking during a hiking activity organised by his group. About 200 people took part in the event
"Hike for Democracy" from Hong Kong Park to the Peak.
