No, it wasn’t a knife attack.
Former Wo Shing Wo triad leader Kwok Wing-hung dismissed reports that he was attacked by a knife-wielding man at the Peninsula Hotel coffee shop on Sunday afternoon, saying he only sustained a slight injury on his right eyelid after hitting a table corner by accident, Apple Daily reported.
Kwok, also known as “Shanghai Tsai”, was discharged from the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital in the early hours of Monday.
Wearing a white suit and a bandage near his right eye, he told reporters that he was fine and feeling well as he walked out of the hospital, with seven or eight bodyguards surrounding him.
Kwok said no stitching was required for his minor injury, adding that he felt he was as handsome as before.
The Organized Crime and Triad Bureau is investigating the alleged attack and has reportedly identified a suspect, a mainland man aged between 30 and 40 with short hair.
According to police sources, Kwok was sitting at a table at the Peninsula lobby lounge on Sunday afternoon, with his subordinates occupying another table.
The assailant approached Kwok and threw a right-handed punch to his face, the sources said.
It is believed that the assailant could be wearing brass knuckles or a sharp object like a ring, which caused the cuts in Kwok’s face.
