The Legislative Council’s Finance Committee will hold an extra eight-hour meeting on January 30 to vet a HK$5.46 billion funding application to cover cost overruns for the massive bridge linking Hong Kong with Zhuhai and Macau.

Officials say unless the extra funding is approved the boundary crossing facilities of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge will be left without taxi stands, car parks and public toilets.

Finance Committee Chairman Chan Kin-por said he will do whatever it takes to ensure that a vote is taken before the end of January, and stressed that there should be enough time for legislators to express their views on the matter.

He noted that the extra eight-hour meeting will give committee members a total of 24 more hours to scrutinise the funding application.
