Government decided that the #SaveOurCountryParks event to be held on Sunday 13 December is NOT suitable for the “Appreciate Hong Kong” campaign.

Earlier this week, Government emailed theSave Our Country Parks alliance to “thank the Alliance's emphasis on protection of our country parks as we all treasure our country parks” but that it “would consider it not suitable for inclusion (of the event) under the Appreciate Hong Kong Campaign” as “the issue of development of our country parks will remain subject to the laws and regulations to protect our country parks.” Today, the Chief Executive went a step further and repeated his call to use country parks for housing.
On November 16, the Chief Secretary Carrie Lam launched the "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign as an open platform. She encouraged different sectors to rganise a wide variety of activities suiting the campaign. Mrs. Carrie Lam elaborated in her speech on the need to appreciate Hong Kong such as the beautiful country parks and Victoria Harbour, to show gratitude for Hong Kong, to understand Hong Kong, and to add value to Hong Kong.
The Save Our Country Parks alliance immediately wrote to Government informing it will organize an annual “Country Parks Appreciation Day” and requesting it to be included on the “Appreciate Hong Kong” event calendar and website. The first event which will be held every second Sunday of December is on 13 December and the theme is “#SaveOurCountryParks”.
Residents and visitors are urged to post selfies and messages in support of country parks on social media in opposition to development threats.
Do you agree with Government? Join the campaign, and post a selfie and a message in support of #SaveOurCountryParks this weekend.
