A woman gave birth to her second child inside a taxi with the assistance of police officers in Admiralty.
Both the mother and the newborn baby boy appeared in good condition, and were later transported by an ambulance to the hospital, Apple Daily reported on Friday.
The 32-year-old woman surnamed Poon felt the onset of labor at home in Tseung Kwan O at around 2 p.m., and subsequently took a taxi to Queen Mary Hospital, accompanied by her mother and her three-year-old son.
On the way to the hospital, her amniotic sac or bag of waters ruptured, prompting the taxi driver to stop the vehicle in front of Hutchison House on Murray Road in Admiralty and call the police for assistance.
It happened that a Hong Kong Island police tactical unit passed by and came forward to help.
The male officers covered the windows of the taxi using their uniform jackets for privacy, while a female officer went in to assist in the delivery of the baby.
