The environmental group Greenpeace claims that tests it did show that water in some of Hong Kong reservoirs is affected by pollutants carried by a mainland river.
The group said it tested water in five reservoirs and found perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) in three, all of which had water from the mainland's Dongjiang River. These chemicals are considered an environmental threat and can lead to health problems.
According to Kate Lin, a senior campaigner for Greenpeace, the PFCs are commonly used in the textile industry. She blamed the contamination on garment factories in the industrial sector along the Dongjiang River.
