Taxis in Hong Kong
Bad driving, overcharging and poor manners are among the top grievances Hongkongers harbour
against local taxi services. More than half of the comments received by the city’s Transport
Complaints Unit (TCU) in the third quarter of 2015 were concerning taxis, (shock horror!).
Such complaints increased from 2,466 to 3,000 from the second to third quarters of this year, a
20 percent increase, reports HKFP.
Of the 6,166 total cases that flooded into the TCU in the third quarter, 68 percent of the were
found to be substantiated, two percent were unsubstantiated, and the remaining 30 percent could
not be determined due to lack of evidence.Traffic tickets also increased by 18.5 percent in the
same period.
The total number of complaints increased by 12.6 percent as compared to the second quarter of
this year, but only by 5.8 percent compared to the same quarter of 2015.
The TCU said they are working to resolve the substantiated issues.
