An energy expert has called on the two power companies in Hong Kong to come up with measures to help cut electricity consumption.
Last week, Hongkong Electric and CLP Power said they would reduce tariffs by about one percent following a fall in fuel prices.
Dr William Chung, the director of the Energy and Environmental Policy Research Unit at the City University of Hong Kong, said the small reduction is unlikely to increase electricity consumption.
But he said the power firms should provide incentives to encourage people to use less electricity to mitigate climate change.
