Hong Kong’s Global Leadership in Aeronautical Meteorology
Move over Margaret Chan. Hong Kong has another global leader.
Mr. Shun Chi-ming traveled to Montreal during its famous Jazz Festival to reign triumphant as he was elected for a second terms as the President of the Commission for Aeronautical Meteorology (CAeM) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). He was first elected when the group held their meeting in Hong Kong in 2010.
His peers tell the story: Dr Agnes L Kijazi of Tanzania said "During the last four years, we have seen a number of achievements through the leadership of Mr Shun. African countries received a lot of support in establishing quality management systems and competency assessment. We look forward to new achievements under Mr Shun's leadership in the next four years."
The CAeM is one of the WMO's eight technical commissions looking after the application of meteorology to aviation. The Commission's primary mission is to co-ordinate meteorological support to meet the requirements of aviation for safe, economical and efficient air navigation. Mr. Shun is better known locally as the Director of the Hong Kong Observatory. Way to make us proud.
Competition Commission cultivates Canadian commander completing CC complement
Dr. Stanley Wong, a Canadian lawyer, is the new CEO of the Competition Commission starting September, Dr Wong has close to 30 years of competition law related experience in Canada and the EU and pretty much everywhere else - Malaysia, Colombia, Singapore, UK, India, Croatia, South Africa, Ireland you name it. Very very experienced fellow, currently living in Vancouver. It will be interesting to see how he handles a politically charged position in this politically charged environment.
