Pan-dems issue alternative reform report

Twenty-three pan-democratic lawmakers have jointly issued an
"alternative report" on political reform ahead of planned meetings with the Director of the Liaison Office, Zhang Xiaoming, over the next few days.

They say it reflects public opinions on the issue far more accurately than the government's reports which were submitted to Beijing last month.

The 'alternative report' by the pan-democrats was compiled by Civic Party leader Alan Leong.

He said the administration had deliberately played down the outcome of Occupy Central's unofficial referendum in June, where the majority of almost 800,000 voters endorsed proposals that allow voters to nominate Chief Executive candidates.

Mr Leong said the alternative report details Hong Kong people's wishes for genuine democracy with no pre-screening mechanism for the 2017 chief executive election.

The report urges the National People's Congress Standing Committee to take the views into account when its members meet to map out the SAR's political future later this month.

The Democratic Party will be the first group to meet Mr Zhang on Friday.
