Regular riders of Hong Kong's trams (known affectionately as "ding dings") might be a bit peeved to hear that seven tram stops in east Hong Kong Island have been temporarily closed until the weekend due to a surprise derailment. What other kind is there?

On Tuesday morning, a tram decided to go off piste while making a turn near a construction site close to the Shau Kei Wan Terminus, HKFP reports. Thankfully, the driver was not hurt and there were no passengers on board.

Hong Kong Tramways has sensibly chosen to start renewal works ahead of schedule after inspecting the tracks at the site of the incident. A notice posted on their website indicates that three eastbound and four westbound stops will be out of use until Saturday.
