Justice secretary Rimsky Yuen Kwok-keung , who was absent from a public function on Tuesday, was admitted to a hospital earlier this week after feeling discomfort in his intestines.
Yuen’s press secretary said today the justice minister was advised by his doctor to take rest at hospital after he was feeling sick.
Yuen was admitted to hospital on Tuesday. The press secretary declined to reveal the hospital.
The 51-year-old Yuen was absent from a press conference unveiling the year’s Top Ten News Stories on Tuesday where he was invited to be the officiating guest.
“Mr Yuen did not undergo any operation at the hospital and is expected to leave the hospital within this week,” his press secretary said.
In a letter yesterday to the Legislative Council’s subcommittee on matters relating to railways on Wednesday, the Transport and Housing Bureau said Yuen would not be able to attend the subcommittee’s meeting scheduled for tomorrow because he was currently “in convalescence in hospital”.
But Yuen was said to be on schedule to attend a Legco meeting next Wednesday to address an oral question on the installation of a joint immigration checkpoint at the cross-border railway terminus in West Kowloon.
It was the second time for Yuen to be absent from a public function because of sickness in the past two months. On October 1, he was unable due to illness to attend the flag-raising ceremony and cocktail reception to mark the 66th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
