The head of Beijing’s Basic Law committee, Li Fei has said if there’s no progress on Hong Kong’s political reform, it would be the fault of those who vote down the government’s proposal for the Chief Executive election in 2017.
Mr Li made the remark after hearing views from Hong Kong politicians and professionals in three seminars held this week in Shenzhen.
Mr Li described the latest seminar on Friday as the most comprehensive and wide-scale. He said it showed the sincerity from the Central Government and the HKSAR in achieving universal suffrage, and that Beijing valued the public opinion from Hong Kong.
However, Mr Li also reiterated that the Nominating Committee, to be set up to name Chief Executive candidates, would follow the majority rule and make collective decisions on who should be allowed to run for the top job.
