A recent video posted on Facebook by Chief Executive CY Leung of him singing a popular song of the local rock band, Beyond, raised concern that he might have violated the controversial Copyright (Amendment) Bill that will be discussed in the Legislative Council on Wednesday.

The Director of Intellectual Property Ada Leung had reportedly defended for her boss, saying Leung would be exempted because it is a matter of “current affairs” – one of the six exemptions offered under the bill – as he is a public figure.

IT sector lawmaker Charles Mok also said Leung should be safe because he was singing with a member of the band who owns the copyright.

Au Nok-hin, who sits on the Democratic Party's Executive Committee, said the chief executive should support pan-democrats’ motions to protect the rights of those who do the same.
