A mainland woman who is accused of assaulting a Hong Kong mother and daughter at the MTR Sha Tin Station on Monday, was escorted in a government car when she left court on bail Wednesday.
Police said at 9 p.m. in a reply to media enquiries that, after a public safety and order assessment, they had arranged for a vehicle to take Huang Yufeng, 27, from the Sha Tin Magistrates’ Courts, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported Thursday.
The police statement said the arrangements were made to avoid chaos and ensure public order, as there were public meetings and processions outside the court building at the time.
The Sha Tin Magistracy blocked public access to the parking lot on the ground floor after Huang completed her bail procedures, citing emergency repairs as the reason.
Several police superintendents appeared and instructed court security personnel to guard the main entrance.
Huang was then seen leaving in a car with a government registration.
Closed-circuit television footage from stores in Sha Tin Station captured the attack on the two women, Apple Daily reported.
The prosecution requested that the case be adjourned for six weeks to allow time to obtain the medical reports of the two injured women, Lam Yuet-fun, 54, and Lau Kwan-mei, 28.
The magistrate ordered that the trial be postponed to June 8.
Huang was allowed bail of HK$50,000 (US$6,444) and had to surrender her two-way travel permit.
She must report to a police station three times a week before the trial and stay at an address in Ma On Shan during the period.
Huang is facing a charge of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Lam and a charge of common assault on Lau outside a cake shop at the Sha Tin Station.
Lam reportedly landed on the back of her head after being attacked and suffered a mild stroke.
Police are waiting to take a statement from Lam and are awaiting medical reports to decide if more serious charges might be laid against Huang.
