The Urban Renewal Authority on Tuesday launched an electronic bidding platform to help building owners find contractors for renovation works as part of an initiative to curb tender-rigging.
The URA's head of building rehabilitation, Daniel Ho, said those who submit tenders will remain anonymous throughout the process, thus creating a fair bidding environment.
Private building owners will be charged HK$7-250 per unit for the service, depending on the value of the properties. But the buildings have to be at least 30 years old.
The pilot scheme will handle 50 cases in the first year on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Ho told RTHK's Damon Pang that an interim review of the scheme will be carried out 18 months later.
