The Chairman of the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC), Larry Kwok, said on Monday that the IPCC will launch an investigation into how the police handled the July 1st march and dealt with protesters taking part in an overnight sit-in after the rally.

Mr Kwok was speaking after meeting with the Civil Human Rights Front, which lodged a complaint with the IPCC.

The Convenor of the Front, Johnson Yeung, said it was important to find out if the police adopted appropriate crowd-management measures during the July 1st march, and whether officers abused their powers while clearing protesters from Chater Road the next day.

He said the law should be amended to give the IPCC more powers to deal with complaints that are substantiated.
