Solicitor Kevin Yam says the Law Society Council should select a new president to replace Ambrose Lam if he refuses to step down.
He was speaking to RTHK after members of the society on Thursday night passed a motion of no confidence in the incumbent.
Ambrose Lam said he respected the vote initiated by Kevin Yam, but refused to say whether he would resign.
Mr Lam had been widely criticised for backing Beijing's contentious white paper on Hong Kong, which asserted the Central Government's authority here, and classified judges as administrators.
