The Hong Kong Cabin Crew Federation on Monday demanded an urgent meeting with aviation officials over the handling of passengers' baggage after the latest reply from the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) again failed to explain the security arrangements for luggage that is left behind by travellers at Hong Kong International Airport.

The matter arose after the Chief Executive CY Leung's daughter, Leung Chung-yan, left her carry-on baggage behind last month before it was delivered to her in the restricted area. CY Leung spoke to an airline staff member before this was done. But he denied he had pressured the staff member into breaking any rules.

The federation said the CAD had just stuck to its original explanation that all bags and passengers need to go through security checks before entering the restricted area. But it did not mention if the passengers have to carry their bags themselves.

It said the CAD's "bureaucratic" reply had "outrightly" avoided their questions and concerns over the issue.

"An open dialogue is the key to address the issue and ease the worries of all the aviation workers and the general public of Hong Kong. [The federation] urges you to act promptly to avoid the situation from deteriorating further", it said in a letter to the CAD.

In response, the CAD stated in a letter to the federation that a meeting could be arranged once it receives a report on the incident from the Airport Authority.
