A member of the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC), Helena Wong, has accused the police watchdog of unnecessary secrecy over the recruitment of its new secretary-general to replace Ricky Chu.

Wong, who is also a Democratic Party lawmaker, said Chu's successor has already been selected, but the chairman of the IPCC, Larry Kwok, has refused to divulge who the person is.

She said IPCC members had been kept in the dark throughout the recruitment process, and described the lack of transparency as unacceptable.
