Two more writers have submitted blank columns to the Chinese-language newspaper, Ming Pao, over the controversial sacking of a top editor, Keung Kwok-yuen, last week.
They were submitted by a Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) journalism lecturer, Vivian Tam, and former talk show host at Commercial Radio, Li Wei-ling, who was sacked by the broadcaster in 2014.
"They can’t kill us all", Li wrote in the headline of her column.
Three blank columns were published on Sunday in protest over the dismissal. But there was a note added in the columns explaining that Keung was sacked as part of cost-cutting measures. The same note appeared in the columns published on Monday.
A senior lecturer at the School of Journalism and Communication at CUHK, Eva Chan, believed the blank columns she submitted for Sunday’s edition would have a significant impact.
"The media is very concerned about this incident", she told RTHK’s Janice Wong. "It puts pressure on the management of Ming Pao".
