Hong Kong Television Network (HKTV) is dropping its legal bid to get a free-to-air licence, three years after the government decided to keep the station out of the market.

The broadcaster said on Wednesday that it would not be continuing legal action, after the Court of Appeal ruled last month that the government does not have to revisit its controversial decision on HKTV.

A year earlier, the High Court decided that the Executive Council's refusal to grant HKTV a free-to-air licence was unlawful and the council must reconsider the station’s application.

HKTV has since made another application for a free-to-air licence.
