A study by the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has found that workplace discrimination in Hong Kong was "alarming" and "too common".

The study - the first of its kind commissioned by the EOC - questioned 2,000 people.

Nearly one in five said they had faced discrimination at work or when seeking jobs.

Two thirds of the people who felt they were victims of discrimination said they were treated less favourably because of their age.

The study also revealed that 94 percent of victims did not take any action against the perceived discrimination.

The convenor of the EOC's Policy and Research Committee, John Tse, said on Thursday that the situation was unacceptable.
