The chairman of the newly-formed Demosisto party, Nathan Law, said on Sunday that they wouldn’t accept a referendum on Hong Kong's future that doesn't include the option of independence.
Law, one of the student leaders during the pro-democracy Occupy Movement in 2014, said the key is for Hongkongers to be able to choose their own future.
He said the wishes of the Hong Kong people weren’t considered before the handover in 1997 and he hopes the same situation won’t happen again in the run up to 2047, when the “One Country, Two Systems” principle could come to an end.
Demosisto, whose members also include former Scholarism leader Joshua Wong, says in its manifesto that it wants a referendum to be held in the coming years on the territory’s future.
