Police said on Saturday they were liaising with their mainland counterparts over a teacher who has gone missing after crossing the border to Shenzhen.
Officers said Hilary Bower's girlfriend made a report to them at the end of last month, saying the 60-year-old Briton had not been seen since March 21.
Polytechnic University has confirmed it has lost contact with Bower, who teaches at its English Language Centre.
A spokeswoman for the university said staff there were in touch with the teacher's family in the UK and would provide assistance to them.
Media reports have suggested Bower’s disappearance could be linked to a mainland property deal.
