The health secretary said he would follow up on reports that a 30-week pregnant nurse had a stroke during her night shift.
She is understood to be in a serious condition and is being treated in an intensive care unit.
Ko Wing-man said under existing Hospital Authority arrangements, pregnant nurses are excluded from doing certain night shifts or some high-risk tasks.
He said officials will review the situation to see if all public hospitals are following the same rules.
The Association of Hong Kong Nursing Staff had earlier sent a letter to the authority demanding an increase of manpower and exclude nurses who are 28 weeks pregnant from doing night shift.
