Democratic Party lawmaker Helena Wong on Monday urged the government to set up new legislation to control water quality.
Wong said the current practice – which requires the Water Supplies Department to manage both the provision and quality control of drinking water – is not up-to-date.
She said different departments should be engaged in checking water quality as done in other countries.
Commenting on government's planned pilot scheme for food trucks, Wong who took part in a visit to food trucks in San Francisco last month saids the SAR government has adopted a top-down management model by assigning trucks to specific, tourist-heavy locations.
She said in the US authorities used a bottom-up approach, allowing food truck owners to choose their own locations.
Wong also suggested that laws here could accommodate other mobile food facilities, apart from food trucks.
