The Chief Executive CY Leung on Friday insisted he did not pressure anybody at the airport to deliver a bag for his daughter in breach of safety regulations.
Responding in person for the first time, Leung said he only talked to the airline's frontline staff to see what could be done, after his daughter told him that she left a bag outside the restricted area.
Leung said if he had wanted to pressure anybody, he would have called the senior management of the carrier or the airport's security company directly.
Furthermore, he said that since the plane was about to take off, it would have been to late even if he wanted to intervene.
Media reports had suggested that he had told airline personnel to address him as "Chief Executive Leung" on the phone, but he denied that as well, saying he only identified himself as "the father of Leung Chun-yan".
