Civic Party lawmaker Kwok Ka-ki says many young people have become radicalized because they are worried about the direction in which Hong Kong is heading.
Speaking on RTHK's Letter to Hong Kong, Dr Kwok said Hong Kong's youth had lost their trust in the SAR government.
He said many of them believe the city is becoming more like the mainland, and this explains why some call for independence.
He said both the central and Hong Kong governments should attach greater importance to the views of young people.
