Pro-government legislators have voted down a proposal made by independent Raymond Wong to appoint a select committee to investigate whether the daughter of Chief Executive CY Leung had received special treatment after she left her carry-on luggage in the airport’s departure hall last month.
Leung had been criticised for pressuring airline staff to deliver Leung Chung-yan’s baggage into the airport's restricted area for her. Some people say this was a breach of baggage security rules.
Speaking during a Legco House Committee meeting, Democratic Party lawmaker Sin Chung-kai supported Wong's proposal, saying the incident has already damaged the reputation of the city's airport and that there's a need to get to the bottom of the case.
But pro-government lawmakers, such as Wong Kwok-kin from the Federation of Trade Unions, said the incident had been blown out of proportion because there was simply no evidence to show that Leung had abused his powers.
