Michael Tien talks to RTHK's Janice Wong
New People's Party lawmaker, Michael Tien, said on Thursday that everyone mentioned in the Panama Papers report should come forward and explain to the public the circumstances for setting up shell companies.
But he said it's too early to say whether the Development Secretary should resign over the issue.
Leaked documents from Panamanian law firm, Mossack Fonseca, show Paul Chan's family used offshore firms linked to land deals in the northeast New Territories. There were conflict of interest allegations over the land when Chan spearheaded plans to develop the area two years ago. He says he wasn't involved in the off-shore firms.
Tien, who has also been linked to the Panama Papers, told RTHK’s Janice Wong it's important to clarify the issue with the public.
“Let us not talk about resignation first. Every one of us who is mentioned [in the Panama Papers report], it is up to us to come forth and communicate with the public, which is what I did yesterday and … today,” he said.
