The Travel Industry Council says Hong Kong travel agencies will not cancel trips to the earth quake-afftected Japanese island of Kyushu but make necessary changes to itineraries ensure the safety of travellers.

Around 30 tours that are scheduled to head to Kyushu on Friday and in the coming days will be departing the SAR on schedule. Kyushu is the third largest island in Japan, comprising of seven prefectures.

The Executive Director of the TIC, Joseph Tung, said he's been told by travel agencies that there'll be changes in the itineraries to ensure the safety of travellers.

He said all 15 Hong Kong tour groups, consisting of around 300 tourists, are safe in the Kyushu area.

He also urged those who’re travelling to the affected region themselves to be extra cautious. “Try to listen to the broadcasts from local [stations to understand] what areas will be affected”, Tung said.
