A member of the Lantau Development Advisory Committee has moved to allay environmental group concerns about the possible impact of increased tourism, and says the capacity of the island to receive visitors should be "critically assessed" when promoting tourism.
Speaking on a radio programme, Allen Ha noted that some environmentalists are concerned that the proposed development on Lantau - especially south Lantau - would affect biodiversity.
But he said any development in the area would only be "moderate".
"I think we need to critically assess the capacity issue but the whole proposal for Lantau (Island) development – especially on the south side – is all about moderate (development)," he said.
